 Technology Autobiography                                                                                          100 points
  • We are all products of our experiences. As teachers, this is particularly true. How we operate in the classroom – our interactions with children, the activities we facilitate, the methodologies we implement, etc. – are often connected to the ways in which we experienced school and learning as children ourselves. As a prospective teacher, it is important that you carefully examine your own experiences as a learner even as you prepare to teach others. The intent of this assignment is to reflect upon the experiences you had in technology as an elementary student, middle school, high school, and college student.
  • There is no particular format for this writing exercise. Rather, you are free to write about anything that comes to mind. You might want to recall your impressions of technology as a young child. You might want to describe activities or classroom events that caused you to think about technology in a particular way. Perhaps you have a “horror story” about technology that you have never been able to shake, or perhaps you engaged in a hands-on experiences that really stimulated your thinking and creativity.
  • Questions you may want to think about during this activity include:
    • What did technology in your classroom look like when you were a child (K-6th grade)?
    • What is your best and/or worst memory surrounding technology in elementary school?
    • How has this affected your views about technology now as an adult?
    • How did your teachers use technology in your classes?  How do you think they felt about technology?
    • What did technology look like?
    • How was technology different in high school and/or college?
    • Do you use a technology every chance you get or prefer to use paper/pencil over other online applications or programs?
  • Whatever the case, you are to write from one and a half to two and a half pages (double spaced) on your early experiences, and how those experiences have contributed to your present understanding of technology. At least 350 words.
  • Place your reading autobiography in the dropbox by 11:59pm on the day that it is due.
